UWA Profiles and Research Repository Support

Guidance for setting up your UWA Profile and adding publications to your profile and the Repository.

ORCID iD

ORCID provides researchers with a globally unique ID that can be used throughout their scholarly career. In an international research environment, your ORCID distinguishes your research output from all other researchers to ensure consistent, reliable attribution of your work and accurate measurement of your research impact. Read more about ORCID iD and how you can use it most effectively in the Citations, Altmetrics and Researcher Profiles Guide

The UWA Research Integrity Policy requires authors to include their ORCID in publications and to ensure that their ORCID iD is linked to their profile in the UWA Profiles and Research Repository.

Linking your ORCID iD to your UWA Profiles and Research Repository profile will:

  • Automatically update your ORCID record when new outputs are added to the Repository.
  • Add an official UWA affiliation to your ORCID record.
  • Enable Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students to have a visible profile in the Repository (registering your ORCID® iD is a mandatory requirement for HDR student profiles).

Connecting your ORCID iD will not push publications listed in ORCID across to your repository profile.

Once connected, your ORCID iD will display under your position title in your ‘Personal overview’ in the Repository:

Follow the instructions below to either:

Create an ORCID iD

First, double-check that you don't already have an ORCID iD to avoid creating a duplicate profile. Try searching for your name on the ORCID Website. If your name appears, try logging in using your current or previous email addresses. You may need to use the Forgotten password option.

To create a new ORCID® iD, you can register for one through your profile in the UWA Profiles and Research Repository. Your UWA and ORCID profiles will then be linked and new publications will be exported to your ORCID record when they are added to the Repository. Registration for an ORCID iD is free. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into the UWA Profiles and Research Repository with your UWA SSO credentials.
  2. Click on Edit profile.
  3. Click Create or Connect your ORCID ID
  4. A Connect with your ORCID ID information screen will appear, advising that you will be taken to the ORCID website to complete the registration.
  5. Please tick with first checkbox, agreeing that the Repository can read public information listed on your ORCID profile.
  6. UWA staff and research students are recommended to also tick the second checkbox, authorising the Repository to add details of your papers to your ORCID profile. Adjunct staff primarily working at an institution other than UWA may prefer not to select this option to avoid duplicate publications in ORCID.
  7. Click on Proceed.
  1. You will be redirected to an ORCID login page. Select Register now and work through the registration steps to create an ORCID. You may like to register with a personal email address (instead of your institutional email address) to ensure you can access the account in the future if no longer affiliated with UWA.

  1. You will then be asked to allow the UWA Research Repository to access your ORCID record. Click Authorize. This authorisation enables your Repository research output information to be exported to your ORCID record. Content exported includes:
  • Research outputs that are:
    • Approved or Validated
    • Published or E-pub ahead of print
    • Visibility = ‘Public – no restriction’
  • UWA affiliation
  • Repository profile URL
  • Other person identifiers (e.g. Scopus author ID, ResearcherID)

  1. You will then be redirected to the Repository, with a message confirming that you have successfully created your ORCID iD. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
  2. The Repository will automatically update your profile content overnight. If you want to export the content to ORCID immediately, click Edit profile, and then click Export next to your ORCID iD.

Connect an existing ORCID iD

If you already have an ORCID iD, follow the instructions below on how you can connect your ORCID iD to your profile in the UWA Profiles and Research Repository.

  1. Log into the UWA Profiles and Research Repository with your UWA SSO credentials.
  2. Click on Edit profile.
  3. Click on Create or Connect your ORCID iD
Enter your account details and click Sign In to ORCID. If you don't know your password, use the Forgotten password prompt.
  2. You will then be asked to allow the UWA Research Repository to access your ORCID record. Click Authorize. This authorisation enables your Repository research output information to be exported to your ORCID record.
  3. You will then be redirected to the Repository, where you started the process to add an ORCID iD. You can see whether the process was successful in the ORCID section of the Edit profile form.
  4. The Repository will automatically update your profile content overnight. If you want to export the content to ORCID immediately, click the Export button next to your ORCID iD. Once the export is complete, a message will display indicating the date and time of the last export. Content exported includes:
  • Research outputs that are:
    • Approved or Validated
    • Published or E-pub ahead of print
    • Visibility = ‘Public – no restriction’
  • UWA affiliation
  • Repository profile URL
  • Other person identifiers (e.g. Scopus author ID, ResearcherID)

        9. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Your ORCID iD will display under your position title in your ‘Personal overview’ in the Repository.
