EndNote referencing software: Introduction

Software that helps automate your referencing. In this guide find out about EndNote, download EndNote (UWA staff and students only) and complete our Endnote Learning Path

EndNote is a software program and a Web application which allows you to:

  • Create and organise a database of your references
  • Store PDF documents and other files with your references
  • Automatically format in-text citations and bibliographies in your chosen reference style
  • Share references with other EndNote users

Note: EndNote is not a substitute for knowing how to construct the reference style you are required to use for your courses or publications. For more information on reference styles, see the Referencing guides.

To learn EndNote using a step by step program follow the EndNote Learning Path.

On Your Desktop and Online

EndNote exists in two versions, EndNote Desktop and EndNote Online

When you load EndNote Desktop you get a two year licence to use EndNote Online included.

The two versions of EndNote can be used together however you can only synchronise one  EndNote Library with your EndNote Online version.

There is also slightly more functionality in your EndNote Desktop version. We would recommend getting proficient with EndNote Desktop before using EndNote Online.

Go to the Get EndNote tab to find out how to download this software to your own computer.
