From 1 January 2005, under section 20 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 (Cth), the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI) was established as the authorised online repository for electronic versions of Commonwealth legislative instruments and related materials. Legislative Instruments include Rules, Regulations, Orders, Explanatory Statements, Proclamations and Notices, as well as Compilations of these Instruments. FRLI is maintained by the Australian Government (Office of Parliamentary Council).
Once Regulations have been made they are given a sequential number for the year.
For example:
Research Involving Human Embryos Regulations 2003 (Cth) is Statutory Rule number 22 of 2003. (SR 2003 No. 22)
Federal Magistrates Court (Bankruptcy) Rules 2006 (Cth) is Select Legislative Instrument 1 of 2006 (SLI 2006 No. 1)
