Guidance for creating a research data management plan (RDMP) and requesting UWA approved data storage.

Why publish your data

The value of research data extends beyond your initial project. By sharing and publishing your data for others to access, you can significantly enhance the impact of your research, making the data more discoverable, accessible, and reusable. Some research funders also require that datasets generated from their funding be published.

Advantages of publishing your data in the UWA Profiles and Research Repository:

  • creates a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for your dataset to facilitate data citation
  • enables you to add metadata, describing your dataset
  • facilitates harvesting of your dataset record by Research Data Australia
  • links data to related datasets, research outputs and some equipment

Not all data can be open due to sensitivity or licencing restrictions.  Publishing in the Repository, is a good option because it allows you to control access through:

  • Setting an embargo period
  • Assigning the appropriate Creative Commons licence on your data. UWA Research Integrity Policy recommends CC-BY, other licences (with more restrictions) are available.
