Information literacy means being able to find, understand, evaluate and use information correctly. It is a critical ability for study and for life. Use this guide to build your skills.

Simply put, literacy is the ability to understand the world around us. Being able to read and write is a major piece of the puzzle. But there are other
important kinds of literacy that help us find our way. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Media literacy - ability to critically analyse news
  • Financial literacy - ability to make informed decisions relating to money
  • Digital literacy - ability to safely navigate use of computers and consumption or creation of digital media
  • Information literacy - ability to find, evaluate and use information correctly.

It is information literacy that this toolkit will focus on. Use the activities and resources to build your skills and knowledge. Learn how to quickly and
effectively find information on a particular topic, filter out untrustworthy sources, read widely to understand the research landscape, credit your
sources appropriately, and ethically use emerging tools such as generative AI.
