What is covered in EndNote training classes?

The University Library provides frequent hands-on EndNote training classes. To register, click on the session displayed in the calendar above.  Classes are open to all UWA staff and students.

Introductory sessions

These typically cover:

  • Creating and organising an EndNote library
  • Adding references to a library both manually and by using direct export or filters
  • Using the Group function to organise references
  • Inserting and editing citations in a Word document using EndNote's Cite While You Write (CWYW) function
  • Formatting references in different reference or output styles
  • Downloading styles, filters and connection files

Advanced sessions

These are adapted to the needs of the specific group and could cover topics such as:

  • Using EndNote to store information - attaching files, figures, spreadsheets
  • Amending a style to allow creation of a single or multiple bibliographies in a document
  • Copying libraries, sharing libraries and using travelling libraries

EndNote Web sessions

No prior knowledge of EndNote is required to attend an EndNote Web class. Topics covered include:

  • Creating your EndNote web account and ResearcherID
  • Adding references to your library and synchronising it with your EndNote desktop library
  • Using Groups to organise and share references
  • Using EndNote Web with Word

Reference styles used in classes

  • Harvard referencing style is used in the Reid Library EndNote sessions. However some advice can be given on Oxford and Chicago styles.
  • APA referencing style is used in the EDFAA & ALVA Library EndNote sessions. However some advice can be given on Oxford and Chicago styles.
  • Vancouver referencing style (which is a numbered system) is used in the Medical Library EndNote sessions.
  • Harvard and/or APA author/date referencing styles are used in the Barry J Marshall Library EndNote sessions.
